About me

Hello, I’m Wan Dang

I am a Ph.D. student in Data Science at the University of Virginia, working under the supervision of my advisors Peter Beling and Tyler Cody.

What did I do?

I earned my Bachelor’s degree in Computational and Data Sciences at George Mason University. During my time at Mason, I was also a member of the Mason Experimental Geometry Lab (MEGL), where I worked with Dr. Michael Jarret and Anthony Pizzimenti on the Standard Schelling Model project.

I also served as a STAR (Student Teaching and Research assistant aka TA) in my home department, the Department of Computational and Data Sciences. In this role, I supported several courses, including CDS 201: Introduction to Computational Social Science, CDS 230: Modeling and Simulation I, and CDS 303: Scientific Data Mining.

At the same time, I interned at DC Witness, where I explored crime-related data and worked on projects involving data collection, organization, and analysis. This experience strengthened my interest in using data to understand real-world systems. Working with data, from cleaning and modeling to interpretation and storytelling, has become one of the most enjoyable parts of my academic and professional journey.
